At long last, things are moving regarding the sale of the house in Cyprus. The purchasers have agreed to the conditions we offered and have agreed to a handover on 1st May when we hand over the keys and they hand over the banker's draft. Next we ask the renter to vacate by 1st May. In reality, they have got a bargain on a house that we lost a lot of money on; we bought at a time of boom and when the world economy crashed the price went bust!!! Still, the millstone has been removed and we are now going forward in buying a property here in the UK. We have already got our eye on a flat we like here in Maidenhead and have promised each other that it will be our last move! We have made an offer and are waiting for their reply. Watch this space! When I last spoke about the house in Cyprus everything seemed tickety-boo. Not so I'm afraid. We agreed with the buyers that the house was going to be sold without deeds as the Cyprus land authority had not issued them. The original reason for no deeds was that the original developer had made an allmighty c--k- up and partly built the swimming pool and outside shed on Turkish land. OK, we fixed that problem and the buyers knew about it and were happy about it but then, the lawyer they appointed was an awkward one and disputed what our lawyer was saying. Cutting a long story short, and despite some abrasive emails (not from me) things seem to have calmed down and hopefully we may well have some better news over the next couple of weeks. |

Do you remenmber Pip? That's the little lady that Isobel, Rhian and I adopted some years ago as she was slowly going downhill. We think Pip did have some relatives up Lancashire way but, as we understand it, she fell out with them many years ago and has never been in contact since. Pip had given Power of Attourney to the husband of a local friend of hers (who has died). Unfortunately, that husband spent her money instead of managing it and after Guy's and my intervention the power of attourney was taken off him - but not before he has spent some £75,000 of her money. Police were involved but although he was considered guilty the charges were dropped 'because of his advancing age (85)'. Anyway, Pip finally ended up in a nursing home where she was looked after until she passed away at the end of november age 97!!! RIP Pip. |
